Kai Trump, the 18-year-old granddaughter of US President Donald Trump, is facing a storm of criticism after a YouTube vlog went viral for all the wrong reasons. In the video, she takes her Secret Service team on a shopping trip to Erewhon, a very expensive grocery store in Los Angeles. She shows off pricey items, jokes about going bankrupt, and highlights her motorcade, leaving many viewers shocked at the display of privilege.
In the vlog, originally titled “I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon,” Kai walks through the store picking up luxury groceries while her Secret Service team follows closely. She shows a seven-vehicle motorcade — three motorcycles and four SUVs — and buys high-priced items like a $21 smoothie. The total bill for the haul is around $233, which many people online saw as tone-deaf given how expensive groceries are for ordinary families.
People online were quick to react. One viewer said frustratedly that while she is allowed to live safely with protection, naming the vlog “I brought my Secret Service to Erewhon” and showing herself with a seven-vehicle motorcade was a clear misfire. Another wrote, frustratedly, that while her grandfather is sending troops her age to die in war, Kai is out shopping with Secret Service in tow, calling it obscene and wrong.
Some found it funny that she got only 3,500 likes from 3.5 million views, pointing out the low engagement. Others were harsh, saying that instead of using Secret Service for grocery jokes about going bankrupt while people go hungry, she could enlist in the military and fight her grandfather’s war.
The video has sparked anger because it shows extreme wealth and privilege at a time when many Americans are struggling. People are shocked by her luxury shopping while being fully protected, and many say it feels completely out of touch. The vlog has started heated debates online about the use of government resources for personal vlogging and the way rich lifestyles are flaunted in public.

The President's granddaughter is allowed to live her life with adequate protection but I think titling your vlog "I brought my Secret Service to Erewhon" and highlighting how you're rolling around California with a seven vehicle (3 motorcycles, 4 SUVs) motorcade is...a misfire https://t.co/9oDATjX1Pe pic.twitter.com/UZzOiO6NMe

While her grandfather is sending troops her age to die in an illegal war, Kai Trump is out with Secret Service in tow on a high-end shopping spree.
This is obscene, outrageous, and utterly wrong.pic.twitter.com/9uIPu7rDXa

Kai Trump is 18 years old. Maybe instead of using Secret Service agents as a production crew for grocery store jokes about “going bankrupt” while people go hungry, she can enlist in the military and go fight her grandfather’s war
