Was a prenup the reason behind Dak Prescott and Sarah Jane Ramos calling off their Italy wedding? NFL quarterback's ex-fiancée addresses rumours

The sudden breakup between NFL quarterback Dak Prescott and his former fiancée Sarah Jane Ramos left many fans searching for answers - and plenty of speculation quickly followed. But Ramos is now stepping in to shut down one rumour that gained traction online.

"This had nothing to do with a prenup," Ramos wrote via Instagram on Monday, March 9. "I hope we can put that rumor to rest now." Her response came after she noticed a clip from the Speakeasy podcast where hosts speculated about what might have led to the couple's breakup.

The speculation gained attention after host Emmanuel Acho shared his views on prenuptial agreements during a conversation about relationships and marriage, prompting Ramos to address the rumours and clear the air.

According to Emmanuel Acho, he said, "I am anti-prenup. I believe that if you need a contingency plan for marriage, you shouldn't be marrying them. If you need to protect yourself from your future partner, who you have to lay in bed with every night - the potential mother or father of your children - you shouldn't be marrying them."

The comments circulated online, fueling speculation that a prenup might have played a role in Prescott and Ramos calling off their wedding.

The couple's breakup surprised many because their wedding had already been planned. According to People, Prescott and Ramos had been preparing to exchange vows in Italy before the ceremony was suddenly canceled. Guests reportedly received emails informing them that the wedding would no longer take place.

A representative for Ramos confirmed the update to People and stressed that the decision was mutual. "There wasn't any rockiness in the lead up, and there was no big argument or blow up. It was a mutual decision," Ramos' rep explained.

"They love their girls, and they're committed to raising their children together in the most loving and positive way. It's still shocking for them since this happened so recently, and they ask for privacy while they sort everything out."

Prescott, 32, and Ramos share two daughters together: Margaret, 2, and Aurora, 9 months.

The news of the canceled wedding caught fans off guard partly because Ramos had recently celebrated with a bachelorette getaway. She documented moments from the trip on Instagram, sharing glimpses of boating, jet skiing and time spent with friends in a tropical setting.

"I truly believe you can get through anything in life as long as you have really great friends," she wrote via Instagram on Thursday, March 5. "I love these girls so much." At the time, the celebration suggested the wedding was still moving forward.

Prescott had first confirmed his engagement to Ramos in October 2024. According to Us Weekly, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback worked with luxury jeweler Jason of Beverly Hills to design the engagement ring. The emerald-cut diamond ring weighed 10 carats and was valued at approximately $1 million.

Before their split, Ramos spoke about how becoming parents had changed her relationship with Prescott. In an interview with Sports Illustrated in December 2024, she explained that raising children together had brought them closer.

"Parenting brings a new element to your relationship because it's not about you two anymore, the priority is your child," Ramos shared with the publication in December 2024. "But [parenting] makes you understand your partner on such a deeper, emotional level, and it's definitely brought us even closer. It's a blessing."
