A quiet Los Angeles neighbourhood was shaken on March 8 when police say a woman fired multiple gunshots at the home of global music star Rihanna and her partner A$AP Rocky. Authorities later arrested 35 year old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, who allegedly opened fire using an AR 15 style rifle.

According to investigators, the singer and her kids were inside the Beverly Crest residence when the shots were fired. Fortunately, no one was injured. Police say the suspect fled the scene in a white Tesla before being tracked down shortly afterwards.

The arrest has quickly sparked widespread online discussion, with many people asking the same question. Who exactly is Ivanna Ortiz and what led to such a shocking incident?

What happened at Rihanna’s Los Angeles home?

The incident reportedly took place around 1.20 pm on March 8 in the upscale Beverly Crest area of Los Angeles. Police say Ortiz drove up to the property and fired several rounds from her vehicle. Reports suggest between seven and ten shots were discharged, striking parts of the home, the front gate and a parked Airstream trailer on the property.

At the time of the shooting, Rihanna and her family were inside the residence. No injuries were reported, but the situation immediately triggered a major police response.

Authorities tracked the suspect’s white Tesla using police helicopters and located the vehicle in a parking garage in Sherman Oaks. Ortiz was detained without incident, and officers recovered the firearm from her car. She has since been booked on suspicion of attempted murder and is being held on bail set at more than $10 million.

Who is Ivanna Lisette Ortiz?

Ivanna Lisette Ortiz is a licensed speech pathologist who has been living in Orlando, Florida. Public records show she was originally from Illinois before relocating to Florida.

Speech pathologists typically work with patients who have communication or swallowing disorders, often helping children or adults improve speech and language skills.

However, authorities say Ortiz has had several legal issues in recent years. Records show a bankruptcy filing in 2013 and a traffic citation for careless driving in 2021.

More concerning was a 2023 arrest linked to a domestic dispute with her ex husband during a custody exchange involving their children. According to an arrest affidavit from that incident, the situation reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation.

Ivanna Ortiz's videos reveal disturbing rants

In the weeks before the shooting, several videos allegedly posted by Ortiz began circulating online. In one widely shared clip, she sits at a desk in what appears to be her home office and launches into an emotional rant about Rihanna. She claims the singer was stealing her thoughts, accuses her of jealousy and even suggests Rihanna appeared in her dreams.

At one point she says, “When Rihanna is gone, God will take her to her future,” before adding that the singer’s spirit holds no purpose. Other clips show her holding religious books including a Bible while speaking passionately about faith and destiny. In some videos she appears calm and reflective, while in others she becomes visibly emotional, sometimes covering her face or speaking through tears.

The videos quickly spread across social media, prompting strong reactions from viewers. Many expressed concern over what they described as troubling behaviour. One user on X said, “This looks like real psychosis. Someone should have stepped in before things got this far.” Another user wrote, “These people need serious help. Parasocial obsession with celebrities can become dangerous.”

A different commenter focused on the larger issue of online fixation with famous figures. “It’s scary how people start hating someone they’ve never met,” the user wrote. Some viewers also criticised the role of online communities in amplifying extreme behaviour, warning that social media can sometimes encourage unhealthy obsessions.
